Waiting on Wednesday: This Shattered World by Amie Kaufman & Meagan Spooner

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases.

This Shattered World
These Broken Stars #2
by Amie Kaufman & Meagan Spooner
Coming November 11, 2014
Disney-Hyperion

Summary:
Jubilee Chase and Flynn Cormac should never have met.

Lee is captain of the forces sent to Avon to crush the terraformed planet's rebellious colonists, but she has her own reasons for hating the insurgents.

Rebellion is in Flynn's blood. Terraforming corporations make their fortune by recruiting colonists to make the inhospitable planets livable, with the promise of a better life for their children. But they never fulfilled their promise on Avon, and decades later, Flynn is leading the rebellion.

Desperate for any advantage in a bloody and unrelentingly war, Flynn does the only thing that makes sense when he and Lee cross paths: he returns to base with her as prisoner. But as his fellow rebels prepare to execute this tough-talking girl with nerves of steel, Flynn makes another choice that will change him forever. He and Lee escape the rebel base together, caught between two sides of a senseless war.

Why I want it:
These Broken Stars is definitely one of my favorite books from 2013. It was incredibly well-written, containing a unique and captivating sci-fi plot as well as excellent character development and a beautifully captured romance. I am really excited to see how Meagan and Amie flip to a soldier girl and civilian boy for this sequel. Definitely one of my most anticipated for this year!

Why I think you should want it:
These Broken Stars was marketed as Titanic in space, but in truth, this series is so much more than that. Amie and Meagan tread the line perfectly between a story that is simultaneously character- and story-driven, and they ignore neither aspect. TBS is a sci-fi romance, but there's action, adventure, a journey, desperate survival, and a cover-up literally as large as the universe. I'm personally really excited to see new characters and their own arc, but also the continuation of some of the truths undiscovered in the first book. If you haven't read These Broken Stars, I urge you to do so before This Shattered World comes out. Trust me on this one. If you need more convincing, check out my 4 1/2 star review for These Broken Stars here.

  8. God, yes! I'm currently reading These Broken Stars, and, so far, I really enjoy it. I just had to buy it because of the cover. And it's sci-fi, so, duh.
Unfortunately, I don't like this cover as much as the first one. I think I'm just missing a impressive over-the-top dressing gown. :P But the background colours are great!
