Summary:
Wilhelmina has a hundred identities.

She is a princess. When the Indigo Kingdom conquered her homeland, Wilhelmina and other orphaned children of nobility were taken to Skyvale, the Indigo Kingdom’s capital. Ten years later, they are the Ospreys, experts at stealth and theft. With them, Wilhelmina means to take back her throne.

She is a spy. Wil and her best friend, Melanie, infiltrate Skyvale Palace to study their foes. They assume the identities of nobles from a wraith-fallen kingdom, but enemies fill the palace, and Melanie’s behavior grows suspicious. With Osprey missions becoming increasingly dangerous and their leader more unstable, Wil can’t trust anyone.

She is a threat. Wraith is the toxic by-product of magic, and for a century using magic has been forbidden. Still the wraith pours across the continent, reshaping the land and animals into fresh horrors. Soon it will reach the Indigo Kingdom. Wilhelmina’s magic might be the key to stopping the wraith, but if the vigilante Black Knife discovers Wil’s magic, she will vanish like all the others.

Why I want it:
Jodi is a must-read author for me so I will always want her books

Why I think you should want it:
Kickbutt girls. Swoony boys. Magical and unique worlds. Swoony boys. Intricate stories that weave together as well as one of Jodi's knitting patterns. Excellent writing. Swoony boys. HIGHLY excellent tension, particularly of the romantic variety. And did I mention swoony boys? Seriously, Jodi's books have got it all, and if you haven't yet read her Newsoul trilogy, you're missing out. I highly recommend it. Need some persuasion? I reviewed Incarnate, Asunder, Infinite, AND "Phoenix Overture," making it the only series I've fully reviewed on the blog (I usually don't post reviews for multiple books in a series because either you're going to read the series or you're not, but in this case, reviews were required). Plus, there's a high factor of rereadability and they only get better each time you read because the first time I read Incarnate, I gave it three stars. The second time, I gave it five because I could see the ways that Jodi foreshadowed later events so I could definitely appreciate it more.

**Edited to add: Um, embarrassing. I accidentally wrote trilogy, and Jodi herself had to tell me it's only a duology. Some fan I am! But the good news that Jodi JUST ANNOUNCED THIS MORNING is that she will be releasing FOUR OQ novellas in between The Orphan Queen and book two. They will be prequel novellas BUT Jodi recommends you read them in pub order, not chronological. The first novella is called "The Hidden Prince" and is set for a May 2015 release.
Do you love Jodi like I do & will you be picking up a copy of Orphan Queen when it's released (or if/when it hits Edelweiss)? Thoughts & your picks for today's WoW in the comments!

  1. This one's been on my TBR list since early 2014, and the cover reveal only made me more excited. HarperCollins covers are hit or miss, but Jodi is one of those authors who must've sacrificed something big to the cover gods to get the beauty that is The Orphan Queen.
