Summary:
When Hana Fisher moves
to the small town of Mixon, Texas to live with her dad, she dreads
having to work at the boring pile of dirt he fondly calls a motocross
track. But when she gets there, she finds the rinky-dink dirt bike track
from her childhood has grown into the most respected racing track in
the state.
Now popular by association, Hana endures the pain and sweat of working in the summer heat in order to fit in with a sport she’s growing to love. She gets a real family, a best friend and not just one, but two of the fastest racers trying to win her heart.
When Hana abuses her status as the track owner’s daughter to help the gorgeous Ryan Russo cheat in the biggest race of the year, she risks more than just losing her job. Every good thing in her life is at stake now- her friends, her dad’s trust, and Ash Carter- the kind-hearted racer who may not be as alluring as Ryan, but is proof that nice guys don’t always finish last.

Review:
This was another book that I wasn't quite sure what to expect going in, but I was hooked by the blurb. I gotta say, I really liked it.I thought it was cool that Cheyanne featured different kinds of families and that for once, the stepmom was awesome! I found myself really attached to the characters...at least most of them because there are two major characters that are just horrible. Not that it's bad writing, but just they are awful as people and I wanted to punch them.
Who did I not want to punch? Ash, of course. That boy was so amazing, I didn't even care if he had dreads and I don't like dreads! Not one little bit! I admit, there was some major stomach-butterflies and swoonage going on during various Ash-and-Hana scenes. Shelby was fantastic. I really liked Hana having such a strong friend around. They're complete opposites in most ways so I enjoyed the difference between them. Jim (Hana's dad), Molly, and Tieg were all completely awesome. Never was Hana treated like the troubled Other Child, even when she made mistakes.
I liked Hana too, but sometimes I just wanted to shake her and tell her that boys don't act like Ash if they don't like you and they don't act like Ryan if they do like you. The whole scene at the lake made me cringe because I could see this trainwreck of a date going steadily downhill and then BAM! *facepalm* WHY, HANA, WHY?!
Motocross Me gave a pretty good look at people's motivations to do things, particularly organized amateur/professional sports and how they react to any modicum of fame. I thought it was also a pretty normal view of how teenage girls think and react to cute boys when they show interest. I think it's a fantastic quick summer read that'll have you wanting to find a local motocross track just so you can see what the fuss is all about. And while you're reading or driving around looking for said motocross track, here's a little mood music for ya!
Playlist:
"Cruise Remix" - Florida Georgia Line ft. Nelly: It's a song about country boys and girls falling in love and riding around in trucks. Pretty much sums up MM right there!
"The Distance" - Cake: Thank my big brother for this one. Lyrics: "They deftly maneuver and muscle for rank/Fuel burning fast on an empty tank/Reckless and wild, they pour through the turns/Their prowess is potent and secretly stern"
"State of Grace" - Taylor Swift: One of those rare Swifty songs talking about being in love with someone and trying to work through the hard stuff instead of a breakup anthem! Lyrics: "We are alone, just you and me/Up in your room and our slates are clean/Just twin fire signs, four blue eyes/....This is a state of grace/This is the worthwhile fight/Love is a ruthless game/Unless you play it good and right"
"Mario Kart Love Song" - Sam Hart: The BEST song written about racing, ever. This is the original, not the Fallon/Selena version.
"Shut Up and Drive" - Rihanna: Ugh. I'm not a Rihanna fan, but this song fits. Lyrics: "0 to 60 in 3.5/Baby you got the keys/Now shut up and drive"
Wreck-It Ralph soundtrack & score - Henry Jackman & various artists
Cars soundtrack & score - Randy Newman & various artists
