Top Ten Tuesday #26: 2014 MUST reads

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created by The Broke and The Bookish. Each week the girls at B&B think up a fun theme, and participating bloggers post their favorite 10 books in that category. This week's theme is

Top Ten Books of 2014 I am Figuratively Dying to Read
In the land of the Book Shimmy Awards, these are the books that I would cut a B to have early. This list is actually much, much larger, but I decided to go with choices that have covers or at least placeholders thus far. Rest assured that The Forever Song by Julie Kagawa is also here as well as several others.

1. Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi. #TeamAdam, ftw. If you are Team Warner, plz stahp. I worry about you.

2. Evertrue by Brodi Ashton. THE FEELS. This is definitely one of my favorite ya romances ever. Nikki and Jack NEED a happily ever after!

3. Three by Kristen Simmons. I just really want to know how this is going to wrap up!

4. Ruin & Rising by Leigh Bardugo. Sensing a theme? Lots of series enders in 2014! This series is so intense. It drives me crazy in the best way. Well played, Bardugo!

5. Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins. See the above gif.

6. The Retribution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin. Like this isn't on your list. BRING ME NOAH OR BRING ME DEATH. Actually, just give me Noah, kplz&thx.

7. Silver Shadows by Richelle Mead. Knowing how Fiery Heart was going to play out didn't make it any easier to read. The only thing running through my mind is the scene from Rocky, when he's all "ADRIAAAAAAAN!" One of only two novels on this list that aren't the final book in a series, SS will pick up after a fairly significant cliffie, which means I need this stat. Too bad there's no getting around that July pub date. *pout*

8. Grasshopper Jungle by Andrew Smith. I just want to point out this is the only standalone on the list. I felt very passionately about Winger this year, which made Andrew Smith a must-read author for me. People (very, very cruel people) have been talking about this book for months. I really just want to know what all the fuss is about! I feel like I'm the nerd gawking at the cool table!

9. City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare. I am so ready for TMI to FINALLY be over! I've been a in perpetual state of waiting since about 2009. PS S&S, can we please have the final cover now?!

10. Dreams of Gods & Monsters by Laini Taylor. I just read the novella "Night of Cake and Puppets" which is kinda spin-off-y. It takes place during Daughter of Smoke & Bone, but doesn't cover the main action. Instead, it chronicles two of the less-major (because they're not minor, but not the MCs) players, but it stoked my need for Laini's lovely writing!

  1. lol that Stephen Colbert gif is very accurate for this week's topic ;) I haven't read any books by these authors but some of these titles are pretty popular this week (Ilsa and the Happily Ever After, The Retribution of Mara Dyer). Great list!

  2. You mean you're not LITERALLY dying for these?

I still kinda sorta love Cole. /: I just. *exasperated sigh* Stupid sneaky boys.

I'm with you. I want CoHF's cover NOW. It's probably a pile of corpses though /: Ugh. not gonna be able to handle all the deaths.

  8. I really want to read the Mara Dyer series! I just got Shadow and Bone so I'm sure that pretty soon I'll be chomping at the bit for Ruin and Rising. I've heard amazing things about that series. I also want to read Anna and the French Kiss and then obviously, Isla and the Happily Ever After. I've heard great things about the author. Thanks for stopping by my blog earlier!

  11. Mara Dyer nearly made my list, didn't even know it was pushed back... Good list! I must tackle Taylor's books asap. :)
    Happy reading!

    1. I hadn't heard the news either, until earlier this year at a conference. I was talking to one of the S&S people about it, and he said it was pushed back those 8 months. It's a bummer, but I bet the wait only makes it even better.

  12. OOh nice! Silver Shadows would've made mine except I still need to read Fiery Heart! Eep!

And your comment from my blog about you talking to Julie Kagawa about The Eternity Cure and how it made you cry and then her saying she hopes you cry more in the Forever Song, totally got me almost going with the crying! You know face feeling heavy feeling, eyes starting to mist!! And this is me hearing the comment secondhand! Oh that Julie...she's going to kill her readers before her books even come out! Then we'll have to contact psychics or necromancers--because we know those words from reading paranormal books--to have them read it to us!

Haha! Got a little carried away there I think...but yeah. Totally going to read that one as soon as physically possible come 2014!

    Thanks for visiting my blog!

    1. I am fully prepared for all the feels of Forever Song and Silver Shadows... I think. And yes, if you're like that hearing it secondhand, imagine how much of a mess I was with her telling it to me face-to-face! I think my heart really did stop a bit!

  13. I want all of these too! I hate having to wait! Lol!

  14. Great use of the Colbert gif. I love your list ;) If they didn't make my list, the for sure are on my tbr. I haven't read any Andrew Smith, but that's going to change soon.

Also, I feel like all Mara Dyer fans should unite and band together as we impatiently wait for the Retribution and hope for the best.

    Thanks for stopping by!

    1. I hope you like Andrew's books. I was given a copy of Winger, and I haven't looked back. His work is extraordinary.

I REALLY like your idea of MD fans getting together. I think that's the only way we'll be able to cope because Retribution is sure to be devastating, just like Evolution. I'm fairly certain that book almost sent me into therapy... except now I have a deep mistrust of it after their experience in the books!

  15. I CAN'T WAIT FOR "DREAMS OF GODS AND MONSTERS" AND "THE RETRIBUTION OF MARA DYER" !!!!!!!

  20. Hahaha YES. I worry for Team Warner too. Did psycho murderers suddenly become sexy? WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN?! Clearly I didn't get the memo (gladly).

So excited for Three too! I need more Ember and Chase :D

  21. Thanks for letting me know that After The End is on Edelweiss. I'm on Netgalley, but I've never tried Edelweiss. Now may be a good time :)

I obviously agree with Isla and Mara Dyer since they are on my list. I also want to start the Everneath series soon. I have the first book, but I haven't had a chance to read it yet. I completely forgot about City of Heavenly Fire. I should have included it on my list as well.

    1. YES, you are in trouble! I just don't get it. I mean, Chapter 62 was...wowza, but that does not make up for all the harrassment and the general Warner craziness. Don't make me hold an intervention for you! ;)

  26. I don't have Three on my list but it only because I haven't started the series. I've seen all of my bookish friends go crazy over the series so I just know I'm going to love it. Great list, though!
