Cover Love 5: With bonus new book alert!

NEW COVERS! My favorite!

First, a book that I know I will love. Look Razorbill, I adore Richelle Mead. So WHY do you not give her incredible covers? This is a disappointment for sure. Not a fan of the way Sydney and Adrian are just plopped right on here or the way their bodies fade by the tile. It's awkward all the way around. Also, slightly worried about what this means for The Fiery Heart (OUT TODAY!!!!!) because on FH, their bodies are angled together. The distance between them and the angle of their bodies away from one another concerns me (and from that summary, I have a definite feeling that I know what the problem is). Then again, Richelle's good at using books 4 & 5 to rip our hearts out.

Razorbill

Summary:
Sydney Sage is an Alchemist, one of a group of humans who dabble in magic and serve to bridge the worlds of humans and vampires. They protect vampire secrets—and human lives.

In The Fiery Heart, Sydney risked everything to follow her gut, walking a dangerous line to keep her feelings hidden from the Alchemists.

Now in the aftermath of an event that ripped their world apart, Sydney and Adrian struggle to pick up the pieces and find their way back to each other. But first, they have to survive.

For Sydney, trapped and surrounded by adversaries, life becomes a daily struggle to hold on to her identity and the memories of those she loves. Meanwhile, Adrian clings to hope in the face of those who tell him Sydney is a lost cause, but the battle proves daunting as old demons and new temptations begin to seize hold of him. . . .

Their worst fears now a chilling reality, Sydney and Adrian face their darkest hour in this heart-pounding fifth installment in the New York Times bestselling Bloodlines series, where all bets are off.

In contrast, i think this is a really cool cover. I like that there aren't any people on this one.

And the NEW BOOK ALERT goes to Kiersten White and Jim Di Bartolo's surprise collaboration. If Jim's artwork looks familiar, it's because he's Laini Taylor's hubby and the artist who helped co-author some of her books, including the lovely Lips Touch: Three Times, which I loved. You can read Kiersten's blog post about it here. Can't wait to read this!

In the Shadows
Kiersten White & Jim Di Bartolo
April 29, 2014
Scholastic

Summary:
From the remarkable imagination of acclaimed artist Jim Di Bartolo and the exquisite pen of bestselling author Kiersten White comes a spellbinding story of love, mystery, and dark conspiracy, told in an alternating narrative of words and pictures.

Cora and Minnie are sisters living in a small, stifling town where strange and mysterious things occur. Their mother runs the local boarding house. Their father is gone. The woman up the hill may or may not be a witch.

Thomas and Charles are brothers who've been exiled to the boarding house so Thomas can tame his ways and Charles can fight an illness that is killing him with increasing speed. Their family history is one of sorrow and guilt. They think they can escape from it . . . but they can't.

Arthur is also new to the boarding house. His fate is tied to that of Cora, Minnie, Thomas, and Charles. He knows what darkness circles them, but can't say why, and doesn't even know if they can be saved.

Sinister forces are working in the shadows, manipulating fates and crafting conspiracies. The closer Cora, Minnie, Arthur, Thomas, and Charles get to the truth, the closer they get to harm. But the threat is much bigger than they can see. It is strangling the world.

Until one of the boys decides he wants to save it.

Told in an astonishing mix of art and words,
IN THE SHADOWS collides past against future, love against evil, and hope against fear. The result is both a mystery and a masterpiece.

What do you think about these lovelies? Will you be reading them based on their covers? Or will it be their summaries or their reputations? Or do you pass? Let me know!

  1. Honestly I don't like the cover for The Silver Shadows. I mean I get the idea and their positions but honestly the photoshop job is just bad. Also I miss the guy from The Bloodlines covers. Others are new to me and I like Iron Pendulum. Great post :)

Tanja @ Ja čitam, a ti?

    1. I didn't even notice it wasn't the same guy. Yeah, I hate the photoshop on these. It's such a wonderful series deserving of amazing covers, but Razorbill just keeps not delivering. :(

  2. I'm really excited for Iron Pendulum! The cover is perfect. I don't want to see the characters because I like developing my own picture of them!
